Does your HR department understand social media? Do you believe it is only a Marketing or Sales function? In some cases it is not the marketing or sales department that monitors the various social media outlets. The Human Resources departments monitor it for employee activity on twitter, LinkedIn and other outlets. There has been a trend that HR will be the internal brand watch dogs and report their findings. Part of the issue is they do not have a social media policy, and instead use a clause in a hiring document giving them the authority.
